Rockhurst High School celebrated Computer Science Education week in a collaboration with the KC Tech Council. Rockhurst is the only school in the region that requires every freshmen to take an introduction to computer science course.
To kick off our #CSEdWeekKC posts, junior Tanner Helton discusses how he has immersed himself in Computer Science here at Rockhurst, taking four courses in three years. He also has started his own consulting firm, assisting clients with web development and app design. AMDG pic.twitter.com/LnQT80PKfV

All freshmen are required to take an introductory Computer Science course. Freshmen typically come to RHS with little to no prerequisite skills in the field. But many, like Ryan Ficklin, take a liking to it & plan on continuing their CS education. #CSEdWeekKC @KCTechCouncil AMDG pic.twitter.com/KiaakygizD

Senior Max Goeke has taken the two AP Computer Science courses at RHS. It's predicted that by 2020, there will be 1.4 million CS-related jobs in the US, and only about 400k CS grads who have the skills necessary for those jobs. Let's close that gap! #CSEdWeek18 @KCTechCounci AMDG pic.twitter.com/X7m9nqbMcM

Junior Val Bassham enjoys the project-based learning in the C.S. classes, including coding games like Space Invaders. Although he may not go into a C.S. field professionally, he knows that the skills he's gaining will benefit him in any industry. #CSEdWeek18 @KCTechCouncil AMDG pic.twitter.com/MS653Nnmpo

Senior Austin Sands went from not knowing anything about Computer Science as a freshman to now planning on majoring in C.S. in college. RHS's development of C.S. classes in 2016 made a huge impact on the academic life of many students like Austin. #CSEdWeek18 @KCTechCouncil AMDG pic.twitter.com/kNbnNUT3a0
